RANGERS currently boast the best defensive record in Britain - and John Brown reckons that could prove decisive in their quest to make it two SPL titles on the spin.
Walter Smith's men have conceded just 14 goals from their 23 league matches this season, a stat which has been a major factor in them opening up a 10-point lead over Old Firm rivals Celtic at the top of the table.
It means they have a better defensive record in the league than the likes of Chelsea and Manchester United - who are leading the way in the race for the Premier League title race - as well as well as any other club either side of the border.
And Brown believes a continuation of that between now and the end of the season will see the Ibrox club ultimately crowned champions.
brochure printing "If you look at the teams at the top of most leagues then you'll find they'll generally have the best defensive record," explained Bomber.
"Most teams are up there because they don't concede goals and can grab a goal or two at the other end.
"It really shouldn't come as a great surprise that Rangers have such a fine defensive record and they are so well organised at the back and have some extremely good players in important positions.
"I wouldn't only credit the defenders with making such a record possible. But obviously, the guys at the back are the key men when it comes to not conceding goals.
"Rangers have a top-class keeper in Allan McGregor, Davie Weir is probably the most experienced player in the country and Madjid Bougherra has enjoyed another fantastic season.
"Young Danny Wilson has done extremely well when called on and Sasa Papac is another player who performs well on a consistent basis and doesn't give a great deal away.
Thomas sabo charms "So all that has provided the backbone for an impressive defensive record.
"But Kris Boyd is also working a lot harder this season when Rangers don't have the ball and Kenny Miller is especially good at pressurising defenders.
Clip on charms "That then makes life easier for the midfielders to go about their jobs, so it's a real team effort in that respect."
Brown was a vital cog in Rangers defensive wheel during the nine- in-row era. And Bomber credits much of that team's success down to shutting teams out and turning Ibrox into a fortress.
Today's backline has adopted the same mentality and he reckons that is the difference between Rangers and Celtic.
He said: "Walter always has his teams organised. When I played under him, we all knew exactly what our jobs were and we could defend.
"It makes life so much easier for the midfielders and the strikers to know the guys behind them are doing their jobs.
"At the weekend, Celtic conceded another two goals against Dunfermline and it will take time for their new players to settle in and put that right.
"So, you've got to say, if things continue as they are then Rangers are in a very strong position to win the league."
Smith, however, has a decision to make tonight over which two from three he should deploy at the heart of his defence against Motherwell.
Wilson has staked a good claim on a starti
