Two Bowling Green men are charged with stealing copper from a Tennessee Valley Authority substation.

Rodney Phillip Miller, 51, and James Robert Crouch, 50, are each charged with receiving stolen property.

The Taos Municipal School Board unanimously approved a field management agreement with the Sangre de Cristo Mountains Baseball Association, Feb. 10.

The Taos Men's Baseball League appealed to the board Aug. 26 to install sod at Taos High School's new field. Board members worried about maintenance costs for sod, but the league committed to care for the field. The board voted 3-2 to go with sod at that meeting.

League member Norm Cutliff came before the board Feb. 10 "to put the icing on the cake." He said Major League Baseball teams, Cartier Replica Watches including the Dodgers and Twins and the Albuquerque Isotopes have provided "unlimited amounts of advice and consultation" as well as "hands-on clinics."

"We got in their heads and their hearts," Cutliff said, adding that the teams will send personnel to Taos to help install the mound, infield and home plate area, which he called "very high-tech pieces of dirt." He also praised the "incredible" drainage system being installed around the field.

"If it rains all night, we'll be able to play high school or adult baseball the next day," he said.

According to a letter submitted to the board, Cutliff and Marty Remaly are the catalog printing association's directors and will report to Athletic Director James Branch and Maintenance Supervisor Quinton Wood.

"The initial membership includes coaches, professional landscapers, irrigation specialists and businessmen who are players in the adult league or have children in various levels of Taos Schools' baseball programs," the letter states.

Cutliff said the association will put more than 1,000 hours into the field this season, raise funds for the district, use professional fairway mowers and teach young people about how to care for the field.

SOMETHING curious took place in the recent past - many youngsters lost the knack of growing-up.

Getting to the age of 10 was fine. And 11, 12, 13, etc...

But everything got rather tricky when people - invariably men - stumbled into their 20s, traditionally the period when folks from previous generations knuckled down to marriage, family and forging ahead with a career.

This new generation had more pressing engagements: playing computer games; building-up DVD boxset collections; learning new skateboarding tricks.

Why grow up when you can be trapped in teen-hood forever, without a spoilsport mum and dad to tell you when to go to bed? The world of novel writing didn't go unaffected by these changes. Authors, after all, don't just comment on their generation, they are members, too.

In Britain, this army of greying, balding forever-youngsters produced Nick Hornby as their screeching Sergeant Major.

In America, Hornby has his rivals. A group of writers sprung up who were smart, witty and talented. But they avoided the brow-furrowing sincerity of a Tolstoy, Dickens or Graham Greene. Instead, they used their skills to jump on the pop-culture bandwagon.

One of the most celebrated members of this group is Michael Chabon. Chabon loves comic books, Lego, the Pixar movie Toy Story, blockbuster movies, sword and sorcery yarns...

Yet despite this passion for goofi-ness over gravitas, he has built a reputation as one of America's most important novelists.

Chabon is a past recipient of the Pulitzer Prize, one of the most prestigious literary awards in the States.

Yet on the side, he has found time to dabble with a script for one of the Spider-Man movies.

Chabon's latest book is a collection of autobiographical essays, focusing on his struggle to become a fully functioning adult, as is evident from the title, Manhood For Amateurs.

The lady, perhaps feeling sorry for Chabon, tried to push her son towards the desk. The kid pushed back, refusing to enter a room that reeked of failure. Nobody joined the Columbia Comic Book Club that day.

Which may seem an insignificant story in itself, but Chabon's aim is to make a profound point from what initially seems like piffle.

WASHINGTON -- About 1.5 million Graco strollers sold at Wal- Mart, Target and other major retailers are being recalled after some children's fingertips were amputated by hinges on the products.

The recall by Graco Children's Products Inc. includes certain model numbers of its Passage, Alano and Spree Strollers and Travel Systems. The Atlanta company received seven reports of children placing their fingers in a stroller's canopy hinge as the canopy was being opened or closed. Five children had their fingertips severed and two children received cuts on their fingertips.

The strollers were made in China by Graco and sold at AAFES, Burlington Coat Factory, Babies R Us, Toys R Us, Kmart, Fred Meyer, postcard printing Meijer, Navy Exchange, Sears, Target, Wal-Mart and other retailers nationwide from October 2004 to December 2009.

In announcing the recall Wednesday, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said the strollers pose an amputation and laceration hazard to children when opening or closing the canopy. The company advised consumers to stop using the strollers and contact Graco to receive free protective hinge covers.

The recall involves strollers made between October 2004 and February 2008. The model numbers and manufacture dates are on the lower inside portion of catalog printing the rear frame, just above the rear wheels.

The recalled strollers have been on the market for five years. But Graco said in a statement Wednesday it has moved quickly to provide a corrective measure and is working closely with the safety commission.

This is the second major recall in recent months of strollers that led to fingertip amputations and injuries. Last November, about a million Maclaren strollers were recalled after there were 12 reports of children's fingertips being amputated by a hinge mechanism.

The commission is examining all strollers with the designs that have caused the amputations, said spokesman Scott Wolfson.

"CPSC is taking a larger look at the entire product line to determine what steps need to be taken to keep children safe in and around strollers," he said.
